Hello VACPA members!

The VACPA Directorate is committed to leading the chapter and representing the voice of its members. Identifying and selecting leaders that are fully representative of the membership is an essential element within this commitment; one that is met through regular, transparent, and democratic elections. Engagement with professional organizations, particularly through leadership positions, is a meaningful way to gain professional experience, expand your knowledge, support your colleagues, build your network, and contribute to the profession. In advancing the aims and goals of ACPA and VACPA, you help promote a robust positive experience for students across the state.

Each year, VACPA holds elections following the term cycle established in its bylaws. This cycle, the role of President-Elect is open for election. Additionally, nominations for appointed officer roles are accepted as positions are available. The current open positions are Communications Coordinator and Graduate Student Liaison(s). 12/22/2023: Nomination form closes for elected and appointed officer positions 

1/26/24-2/9/24: Voting period for elected positions 

2/13/24: Election results announced

2/28/24: Appointed officers announced

 

Position Descriptions

President-Elect: This person shall perform the duties of the President in the absence of the President. They shall chair and appoint members to the Awards Committee and supervise the onboarding and training of new board members; coordinate strategic planning initiatives of VACPA; attend the ACPA meetings as available. They shall appoint the Communications Coordinator and the Graduate Student Liaison(s).

Communications Coordinator: This person shall work with board members to publish information about upcoming events, current hot topics in higher education, and spotlight graduate students and professionals of all levels across the organization; manage the organization’s various social media outlets, including but not limited to website, social media; create new opportunities for starting discussions and sets goals to develop and implement strategies for adding more members and getting involvement on social media sites; coordinate all marketing materials of VACPA and manage their brand identity in accordance with ACPA brand standards. The Communications Coordinator will sit on the Annual Meeting Committee.

Graduate Student Liaison(s): This individual/these individuals shall perform outreach to graduate school programs in the field of higher education throughout Virginia; assist with and organize professional development and social programming for graduate student and undergraduate student members; provide suggestions to the Directorate that deal with topical issues to current and future graduate students.  This position shall be filled by a graduate student(s) within a graduate program within the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Two Graduate Student Liaisons may be appointed by the Directorate; however, they may not come from the same higher educational institution. The Graduate Student Liaison(s) will sit on the Annual Meeting Committee.
